The Metro Tunnel will transform our public transport network and we are commissioning several permanent artworks along the route.
As Australia's cultural capital where the creative industries play an integral role in the Victorian economy and way of living, we are taking the opportunity to include world-class art as part of this iconic project.
As Melbourne (Woi Wurrung: Naarm) transforms and changes through projects like the Metro Tunnel, opportunities to create markers celebrating First Nations cultures and connection within the urban landscape have emerged.
We’re calling on First Nations sculptors to submit their ideas for a new high-profile sculpture near the Metro Tunnel's eastern entrance.
The opportunity is suitable for a mid-career to established sculpture and/or object-based artist to provide a standalone sculpture or series of sculptural elements. Sculpture(s) that incorporate sound and/or lighting installation may also be considered.
To be eligible, artists must be a Victorian Traditional Owner or a First Nations artist where Victoria is the primary location in which they live and work. This is a special measure under section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
For further information see the South Yarra Creative Brief (PDF, 5.4 MB).
Artists are asked to respond to the Artist Brief in text only. The requirements are listed below:
A Creative Advisory Panel will select a shortlist from the submissions received. Selection criteria include:
