Intersection at Thompsons and Frankston-Dandenong Road opens four months early

The new, upgraded intersection at Thompsons and Frankston-Dandenong Road in Carrum Downs was unveiled this morning, opening to traffic four months earlier than planned.

Crews worked around the clock, utilising a five week road closure to fast-track works. During this time, the roundabout was removed, new lanes added and traffic lights installed.

The new intersection has also been widened to feature two dedicated right-turn lanes and three through-lanes on each approach to the intersection, as well as slip lanes so vehicles can turn left without affecting through traffic.

Replacing the roundabout with traffic lights will benefit more than 58,000 vehicles that travel through the intersection every day and provide better connectivity to Eastlink.

Some minor works will be ongoing, but these works won't impact the movement of traffic through the intersection.
