Archaeology on display
In a once-in-a-generation opportunity, the public is getting an up-close look at the State’s biggest ever archaeology digs.
Viewing windows have been built into the hoarding on Swanston Street near the Young and Jackson Hotel so that passers-by can see the historic archaeological digs underway.
A collection of the most intriguing discoveries will be on display at our visitor centre, Metro Tunnel HQ, from Monday 24 September during the school holidays.
Metro Tunnel HQ is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on weekends.
More than half a million artefacts, some dating back more than 180 years to the early days of European settlement in Melbourne, have been found so far.
