Flinders Street eastbound lane reopening in October

Back to Newsfeed

One of the 2 Flinders Street eastbound lanes that have been closed to traffic since 2019 will reopen in October.

One eastbound lane between Elizabeth Street and Swanston Street, adjacent the tram stop, will permanently reopen. The lane adjacent to the footpath will remain closed as construction continues on the new Town Hall Station.

In the final step towards reopening the traffic lane, a small section of footpath between Dangerfield and Clements House will be closed from 29 May until mid-September. This is so workers can finish construction below the surface and safely reinstate the eastbound traffic lane.

Both eastbound lanes were closed to allow construction of the underground walkway between Flinders Street Station and Town Hall Station.

The walkway will be a critical connection, allowing passengers to quickly switch between Metro Tunnel and City Loop services without tapping off and on.
