Initial testing of High Capacity Signalling passes halfway mark
We have been busy testing Melbourne's new, high-tech train signalling technology.
The first stage of testing High Capacity Signalling (HCS) is now more than 50% complete. This stage involves trialling HCS in a single train on the Mernda line and takes place at night to minimise disruption to normal services.
This technology will replace Melbourne’s existing control system on parts of the train network. It will enable our new High Capacity Metro Trains to self-adjust their speeds and maintain a safe distance from each other.
This "smart" control system will run more efficiently, allowing us to schedule more trains on the network, more often.
