Share your ideas on the Gap Road level crossing removal

We’re removing the dangerous and congested level crossing at Gap Road and enabling bigger, more modern trains to run on the Sunbury Line as part of the works in the Sunbury Station precinct.

The Gap Road level crossing removal will be delivered in conjunction with the Sunbury Line Upgrade, in a partnership between Rail Projects Victoria and the Level Crossing Removal Project. By coordinating these works, it will allow us to bring the level crossing removal forward from 2025 to 2022 so we can get traffic in the Sunbury CBD moving sooner.

About 19,000 vehicles pass through the Gap Road level crossing each day, creating delays and traffic congestion on 1 of Sunbury’s busiest roads. That number is expected to reach 27,000 in 2026 as Sunbury’s population booms.

As part of the level crossing removal, you can share your ideas from 9-29 November via an interactive online survey, with feedback being sought on urban design, landscaping and public artworks.
