Construction has begun on level crossing upgrades on the Warrnambool Line, the latest step towards better train services for passengers in Victoria’s south-west.

The upgrades to level crossings, located along the line from Hunts Road in Moriac to Station Road in Garvoc, will make the Warrnambool Line safer for motorists, pedestrians and train passengers.

The upgrades will include installing boom gates, bells, flashing lights and improved train detection technology.

The level crossing upgrades, delivered by V/Line, are targeted for completion by mid-2020.

The work is part of the Warrnambool Line Upgrade, which also includes building a new crossing loop and signalling upgrades, to enable a fifth weekday return service between Warrnambool and Melbourne and boost reliability on the line.
