All lanes open on the Princes Highway - Winchelsea to Colac

Back to Newsfeed

The Princes Highway Duplication has reached a major milestone with two lanes open in each direction between Winchelsea and Colac.

We’re pleased to deliver this significant upgrade in time for the busy summer months.

This is an important milestone that will have enormous benefits for local road users, the freight industry and the broader road network.

Widening this key arterial route from two to four lanes will make the 35-kilometre journey quicker and safer for up to 13000 drivers every day.

We’ve also upgraded intersections, built new bridges, a new roundabout at the busy Colac-Ballarat Road intersection and installed about 120 kilometres of safety barriers.

This opening follows the recent opening of the new bridge over Barongarook Creek.

Over the coming months, the street lighting will be switched on, and work will continue on drainage and access, beautification, landscaping and electrical work.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to provide a safer and more efficient route for the south-west.

See the Princes Highway West project page for more information.
