New traffic lanes have recently opened on Thompsons Road between Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road. This completes the duplication of 10.7 kilometres of road from Dandenong-Frankston Road to Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
The project also saw the construction of two three-lane bridges, removing the level crossing near Merinda Park Station in the process. Additionally, traffic lights have replaced roundabouts at key intersections to improve traffic flow and safety.
More to come
While the major works are complete, there is still more to do:
- landscaping and planting 449,000 new trees with 16,000 cubic metres of recycled timber mulch
- drainage works under the road near Merinda Park Boulevard
- opening a new 10.7 kilometres shared walking and bike path with better access to public facilities and transport hubs.
The final works on the $207 million project are due to be completed by early 2020.
