Upgrades to major intersections on Hoddle Street and Punt Road are now complete, with changes designed to improve traffic flow and provide better access for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travelling around the area.
Victoria’s first Continuous Flow Intersection at Swan Street and Punt Road is already providing travellers with more go time, saving up to four minutes along Punt Road every day.
As a result, at least 400 more vehicles are travelling through the intersection in peak hours, creating a more reliable driving experience on Punt Road and Hoddle Street.
Major upgrades along the Hoddle Street and Punt Road corridor included:
- significant improvements to major intersections, including Victoria’s First Continuous Flow intersection at Swan Street and Punt Road
- 330 metres of new footpath delivered
- nearly a kilometre of walking and cycling paths upgraded
- a new raised walkway on Punt Road built under the Richmond rail bridge
- improved walking access at Brunton Avenue and Punt Road
- dedicated bus lanes added
- moved both Punt Road bus stops back to the footpath, removing the dangerous road crossing
- eleven new bike racks installed
- new and upgraded walking and cycling paths at Swan Street to improve access and safety
- three trams stops combined into one new accessible tram stop on Swan Street
- a third traffic lane added onto the Eastern Freeway and Hoddle Street intersection.
