Specialised monitoring equipment will remain in place throughout the winter season to ensure any movement within the landslip is detected early, allowing us to implement additional traffic and safety controls if required. Key construction and traffic management personnel will also be present.
The safety of crews and the public are our main priority, and separation measures will be in place.
Traffic engineers are currently finalising plans for the reopening. We are working with Falls Creek Resort Management and other key stakeholders to develop appropriate plans taking into consideration traffic volume, site constraints and safety of all road users.
Material is being stockpiled at multiple short-term locations to expedite clearing works and is also being used at various locations in the local area.
Our contractor, Whelans Group Investments is continuing to identify further sites to receive material on a short-term and permanent basis. If you’re interested or have the need for clean fill material, please contact us on 1800 105 105.
We are committed to supporting local businesses while we work. We are using local accommodation, food and supplies as part of this commitment.
Some of our team is also getting involved in local sport and social activities, and our contractor Whelan’s Group continues to purchase required materials locally where possible.
If you supply goods or services you believe we may require please contact us on 1800 105 105.
Access to the track is available for use by emergency services, essential workers, residents, and business owners who hold a permit to use the track. To apply for a permit, contact the Department of Transport and Planning by email: humeregionalpartners@roads.vic.gov.au who will provide you with a link to an online application form where you will be asked a series of questions relating to your vehicle type and required access period.
Cable Track forms part of the emergency four-wheel drive access track which is currently being used for approved vehicles travelling between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek.
The Department of Transport and Planning is in the process of completing upgrades to the track and will extend access to both four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles once the upgrades are complete in the coming weeks.
An access permit will still be required once all-wheel drive access is granted and will continue to be limited to residents, workers, and essential services at Falls Creek.
The access track will remain open over the Easter period. Apartment owners who don’t currently hold an access permit will be required to apply for one via the online process. Email: humeregionalpartners@roads.vic.gov.au to request an online application link.
