We started work and set up a site office in Templestowe. In the first half of 2021 we were busy completing site investigations, setting up safe work areas and relocating utility services.
Mid-2021 we continued work above and below ground, day and night across the Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade.
At the Main Road and Porter Street roundabouts we commenced road widening, removed medians and islands and completed temporary asphalting for safe driving through these important works.
We relocated the River Peel sculpture to its new home near the Yarra River.
A winter construction blitz at Porter Street in Templestowe re-opened to traffic 36 hours ahead of schedule following a 33-day blitz that saw vital works completed to relocate services and drainage.
During 2021 and into 2022 we were busy upgrading drainage and relocating critical services to prepare to convert the Porter Street roundabout to traffic lights and to upgrade the Foote Street intersection.
We've completed works at the Leane Drive and Main Road intersection with newly installed traffic lights making moving around Eltham safer and more accessible.
Eltham’s most congested roundabout was upgraded with new traffic lights at the intersection of Fitzsimons Lane and Main Road. The switch on of the Main Road signals marked a significant step forward for the Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade and was delivered 5 days early.
Congestion is easing and travel reliability has been improved on Fitzsimons Lane at the Porter Street intersection in Templestowe, after the completion of an upgrade along the busy route with major construction complete and traffic lights installed 4 days ahead of schedule.
Foote Street re-opened at the Williamsons Road intersection after the completion of major works to upgrade the intersection with additional approach lanes and extended turn lanes. The intersection upgrade will help prevent traffic queues building up on Williamsons Road and Foote Street.
These major works complete the project’s fourth and final major construction campaign as part of the intersection upgrades.
Finishing works around the Foote Street intersection will continue until later in the year to complete asphalting, line-marking, signage installation and final utility works.
Finishing works will also continue through Spring at;
Traffic management will continue to be in place to keep workers and road users safe.
Throughout the next few months, we’ve got completion works across the project and ask that you plan your local journeys.

We've moved the River Peel sculpture from the intersection of Porter Street and Fitzsimons Lane, about 1 kilometres north near the Yarra River. Find out more about the River Peel sculpture.
We recognise that mature trees and vegetation are important to the local community and supports local biodiversity. Minimising the impact of vegetation removal has been an important consideration in the design and construction staging of the project.
We’ll protect trees and other sensitive vegetation with ‘no-go zones’ and have qualified fauna and flora handlers on call. We have a dedicated environment manager for the project.
