Works at Pound Road West have been progressing well with plenty of action happening at the new bridge. We’ve commenced utility relocations including the installation of a new storm water drainage system along Remington Drive, Pound Road West and Carter Way.
Progress on the Pound Road West bridge and retaining wall has continued with excavation and piling activities to build the foundations for the new bridge. We’ve also started concreting works for the new bridge piers and abutments.
The majority of our works will be carried out during the day from 7am to 6pm, between Monday and Friday and from 7am to 3pm, on Saturday.
Some works may need to be undertaken at night and over the weekend to minimise impacts on traffic and utility services. These nightworks will take place at various times throughout the remainder of the project to ensure we minimise impacts to businesses in the area.
We’re monitoring noise, dust and vibration to ensure impacts are kept to a minimum to local communities. If you have any questions or concerns during these works, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 1800 105 105.
Reduced speed limits have been introduced for the safety of workers and drivers and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
Barriers have been put in place along Abbotts Road, Remington Drive, Pound Road West and South Gippsland Highway to create a safe construction area for our workers.
As we undertake works in Remington Drive and Pound Road West, a single lane in each direction will remain in place at all times with traffic management to direct motorists around works.
The eastbound Route 890 bus stop located at Abbotts and Taylors roads will be closed throughout the duration of the project. The closest bus stop during the closure will be Abbotts Road and Soccio Place, 600m to the east. We’ll keep you updated about re-opening dates.
On-street parking on Pound Road West and Remington Drive has been removed as part of the upgrade to allow space for the new lanes. On-street parking is still available in Hydrive Close, Ventura Place and Pelson Court. Off-street parking for local businesses remains unchanged.
To improve safety you will only be able to turn right at the upgraded intersections at Ventura Place and Hydrive Close. U-turns will only be possible for light vehicles at one of the three new dedicated U-turn bays. Heavy vehicles will need to detour via Abbotts Road and South Gippsland Highway to reach their destination.
These changes are designed to:
We’re building a new bridge over the Cranbourne rail line to connect Pound Road West and Remington Drive.
This will provide a new connection between the Dandenong South employment hub and the freeway network, improving access in and around the area and reducing growing traffic pressure on the South Gippsland Highway and Abbotts Road.
By 2031, we expect over 40,000 vehicles a day to use this new connection.
The bridge will feed into 2 lanes each way, bordered by new shared walking and cycling paths. Traffic lights will be installed at Hydrive Close and Ventura Place to improve safety for all road users, and intersections will be upgraded at Abbotts Road and the South Gippsland Highway.
