We’ve finished building an extra city-bound right-turn lane from South Road to improve access to Nepean Highway.
In late-November and December, we worked across two weekends to:
Thanks for your patience while we continue to upgrade key intersections along South Road to reduce bottlenecks, improve traffic flow and make your journey safer and more reliable.
From Thursday 13 January, we’ll modify the Taylor Street and Jasper Road intersection to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety on South Road.
We’ll build a new centre median between Station Street and Jasper Road, move the pedestrian crossing from the west side of Taylor Street to the westside of Jasper Road, install new traffic lights, lay asphalt, and complete line marking.
South Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Station Street and Jasper Road between 7pm and 6am:
South Road closed overnight between Station Street and Jasper Road 8pm and 6am:
Lane closures will be in place on South Road between 7am and 4pm, and 7pm and 6am:
Detours will be in place when roads are closed. Please drive safely, pay attention to on-road signs and follow our traffic controllers’ directions.
To minimise traffic disruptions, we’ll also need to temporarily remove the carparks between Jasper Road and Station Street on both sides of the road while we work. Alternative parking is available in Macs Lane, Station Street and Jasper Road.
During night works, we’ll need to temporarily reduce parking on the east side of Jasper Road between South Road and Fairbank Road and between Barry Street and Station street on the eastbound carriageway of South Road.
Please continue to support local traders while works are underway.
We’ll also decommission the existing pedestrian crossing west of Taylor Street from Thursday January 13. You’ll need to use the pedestrian crossings at either Station Street or Jasper Road to safely cross South Road until the new crossing opens on Friday 11 February.
During the overnight closures, the eastbound bus stop at Jasper Road and South Road and the westbound bus stop at Taylor Street and South Road for services 811 and 812 will also be temporarily closed. Further information is available through ptv.vic.gov.au/disruptions/disruptions-information.
You can expect delays of up to 10 minutes when driving through the area. If you can, avoid the area during our works and find an alternative route. If you do need to travel through the area, please allow extra time for your journey.
Our progress may be affected by weather and other unexpected events. You can also sign up for email and SMS alerts.
While we work, you may experience some construction noise and light from our temporary lighting towers. We’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum by:
You can also expect some changes to the road network. We’ll do our best to minimise disruptions to your journey and keep you and our workers safe.
