We’ve helped inspire the next generation of engineers through our Building Roads and Bridges event.
Held at Southland for a week during the school holidays, we had hundreds of excited children attend each day to discover some of the science behind our road construction.
The budding engineers were able to dress up in protective equipment, play with toy construction machinery, build their own roads and bridges out of huge colourful blocks and complete fun activity sheets in a special planning area.
Our Program Director, Brendan Pauwels said it was “great to see so many young children immerse themselves in the world of construction through fun, interactive play.”
As part of the event, we also handed out thousands of construction cut out kits so children could continue the fun at home, building their own excavators and tipper trucks.
Children and their parents were captivated by the event and the Mordialloc Freeway team had a great time sharing their expertise and engaging with the kids as they completed the activities.
Parents also had the opportunity to speak to members of the Mordialloc Freeway project team, learning about the Project and recent milestones, including the opening of the pedestrian underpass at Braeside Park and installation of bridge beams over Bowen Parkway.
The Mordialloc Freeway will connect the Mornington Peninsula Freeway to the Dingley Bypass and is due to be complete by the end of 2021.
