The Narre Warren North Road Upgrade reached a significant milestone this week, with Heatherton Road reopening to traffic a month earlier than expected.
We closed the eastbound lanes while we worked to upgrade the intersection of Heatherton and Belgrave-Hallam roads by building a new dedicated right-turn lane from Heatherton Road onto Belgrave-Hallam Road northbound.
This new upgrade will create greater capacity at Heatherton Road intersection, making journeys smoother and safer for the more than 100 vehicles that use the intersection during the morning peak.
The additional right turn lane will move vehicles out of the through lanes, and reduce bottlenecks, allowing traffic to flow more freely westbound towards the Monash Freeway.
The team are continuing finishing touches around the intersection and expect the new right-turn lane to be open by the end of March.
Additionally, the project team has made good progress in building the foundations of the new northbound lanes on Narre Warren North Road. Works to upgrade the intersection of Narre Warren North and Ernst Wanke roads will commence in the coming month.
Catering for the expected population growth in Melbourne’s South-East, the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade will improve road safety, and reduce the frequency and severity of road accidents in the area.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2023.
