Creating social value on Lathams Road Upgrade
We’re working with Winslow Infrastructure on the Lathams Road Upgrade in Carrum Downs. They’ve teamed up with Australian Spatial Analytics (ASA) to undertake the compliance surveys for the project, essential work that will help keep the upgrade on track.
ASA is a registered not for profit social enterprise that trains and employs neurodiverse adults to conduct professional data analytics services. Their core mission is to leverage data to employ diversity - with over 80% of the organisation’s workforce consisting of people with a disability, namely autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.
ASA’s CEO Geoffrey Smith says, “Working on Lathams Road was our first project in Victoria and our engagement with Winslow Infrastructure has been a real partnership. Although our team had limited experience undertaking compliance surveys, Winslow Infrastructure agreed to work with us based on our extensive track record. They facilitated several site visits that served as on the job training and gave our analysts access to accredited professional development opportunities.”
People with a disability experience significant barriers to employment, despite having the skills required to address some of the current skills shortages across the construction industry. By partnering with a social enterprise like ASA, construction companies can mitigate some of their pipeline challenges and create an opportunity for skilled individuals who might otherwise be at risk of unemployment.
As part of our commitment to social procurement, the Lathams Road Upgrade project has to date invested over $5 million in Victoria’s social enterprise sector. We’re proud of Winslow’s additional efforts to engage with purpose driven organisations that aim to create positive social impact over and above the built infrastructure.
ASA and Winslow Infrastructure are currently in discussions to expand their partnership to other Big Build infrastructure projects.
