Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance and Emma Bamblett/Kinya Lerrk
Emma Bamblett, an Aboriginal artist descendant from the Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmara, Ngadjonji and Taungurung people, was commissioned by the Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance (MRPA) to create "Connecting Mobs," a piece reflecting MRPA’s values of inclusivity. The artwork, prominently displayed in the MRPA office foyer, serves as a visual representation of the Alliance's commitment to diversity. Emma was invited to speak at the artwork's launch, highlighting its significance and fostering dialogue among staff and visitors.
During discussions with MRPA, Emma proposed extending the artwork's impact beyond the office environment. Collaborating with Kinya Lerrk, a business she shares with Megan Van Den Berg, they created custom candles, cards, and tea towels inspired by the artwork. These items are now included in Employee Welcome Packs, showcasing MRPA's support for Indigenous businesses and promoting conversations about cultural values within the workplace.
Additionally, Kinya Lerrk crafted Acknowledgement of Country plaques for MRPA offices and site sheds, further emphasizing the organization's commitment to reconciliation and respect for Indigenous heritage. The collaboration between Emma, MRPA, and Kinya Lerrk continues to evolve, with Emma currently involved in the refurbishment of Beaconsfield Kindergarten’s playground, where her artwork will contribute to creating an inclusive and culturally rich environment for children within the project area.
