North Western Program Alliance and NLA Trucking
NLA Trucking proudly stands as Victoria's sole 100% Aboriginal Female Owned plant hire business. Established in 2016 with just one truck driven by owner Nicole, it has grown steadily to a fleet of over 150 independent contractors and 15 items of owned equipment.
Introduced to Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) through sub-contractor Delcon on a South Eastern Program Alliance (SEPA) package, NLA's involvement expanded across multiple level crossing removal projects, providing tippers for various tasks such as asphalting, profiling, and excavation.
Their journey with North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) began with tendering for the Keon Parade package. Despite being new to tier one tendering, NWPA's Social Procurement Lead supported NLA, ensuring accurate and complete tender documents. This assistance led to NLA securing the contract and subsequently bidding for larger projects like the Maidstone tram maintenance and stabling facility.
With NWPA's guidance, NLA enhanced their tendering capabilities, leading to further growth, including the addition of two trucks and the establishment of a factory in Epping. This expansion created employment opportunities, notably for Indigenous individuals in Melbourne's north. Additionally, NLA's involvement in other Big Build projects has increased, with up to 20 trucks dispatched daily.
For Nicole and her team, working on major construction projects isn't just about business; it's about contributing to community progress and witnessing positive change firsthand.
