Cross Yarra Partnership and Dardi Munwurro Labour and Traffic Management

Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP) is a Public Private Partnership consisting of Lendlease Engineering, John Holland and Bouygues Construction. It is delivering twin rail tunnels and 5 new underground stations as part of the Metro Tunnel Project.

Dardi Munwurro Labour and Traffic Management Pty Ltd (Dardi) has been engaged by CYP to work on the project since April 2023.

Dardi is a Kinaway certified Aboriginal business that provides employment opportunities, training and support for the First Nations community in Melbourne. Dardi is uniquely positioned to support Aboriginal community members to address the challenges that can prevent them from sustaining meaningful employment. Dardi empowers community members to break down generational barriers by creating safe community connections and social, physical and emotional support.

In addition to training and job placements, Dardi provides pre-employment programs to ensure community members are ‘job ready’ for the construction industry. They also provide ongoing mentoring and support to workers and their employers to ensure sustainable, mutually beneficial job placements.

Since its establishment in June 2022, Dardi Munwurro Labour and Traffic Management has supported approximately 80 Aboriginal people into job placements and supported more than 70 people to upskill across a diverse range of trades including electrical spotters, carpenters, riggers, dogmen, hoist operators, forklift drivers, concreters, plant operators, traffic controllers, gatekeepers, peggies and general labourers.

With a pipeline of employment, Dardi is able to provide training and upskilling which represents a generational change and creates careers. Dardi has assisted employees in undertaking Cert III Civil Construction and Cert III Traffic Management courses with further consideration underway for traineeships in white collar roles and apprenticeships.
