Meg Cairns is a Site Engineer with the Manningham Cut and Cover team on the North East Link Project, where she is currently helping deliver work at base to plenum level, including micro piling and waterproofing ahead of the base pours. It's technically demanding work that forms a critical stage of the tunnel's construction.
Meg credits her success on site to the strength of her team, describing a culture where everyone is willing to support one another, share knowledge and work together; an environment that has made a real difference to her experience in the industry.
Her advice to young women starting out in construction is to speak up and stay true to themselves, recognising that their perspective and voice are valuable additions to any team.
Before joining the project, Meg completed a double degree in Civil Engineering and Commerce, including a 6 month exchange in Malaysia that sparked a lasting interest in travel and different cultures.
Her story reflects the important contribution women are making across Victoria's major transport projects, and the value of building inclusive workplaces where everyone can succeed.
