17 December 2025

We’re upgrading Ballarat Station to improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for all public transport users, while considering the heritage of the station.

The project will be complete in April 2026 when we will open the accessible pedestrian overpass, with a lift and stairs to each platform.

In November, we lifted in and installed the pedestrian overpass and the northern and southern lift shafts with an 800-tonne crane while trains weren’t running. We also completed critical electrical upgrades in the station buildings and precinct.

What we’re doing

As we prepare to open the new overpass, lift shafts and stairs in April 2026, we will:
  • install pedestrian overpass drainage, electrical works, CCTV and handrails
  • install staircase handrails and tiling
  • glaze the windows of the lift cars
  • continue planting, signage and lighting works
  • reinstate the Ballarat Station bus interchange in April 2026.

What to expect

While we work in Ballarat Station you may experience:

  • minimal noise levels
  • minimal vibration
  • construction vehicles in our project site areas and surrounding roads.

When we’ll work

Our crews will take a break from Saturday 20 December 2025 until Tuesday 13 January 2026. You may notice minor activity on site during this time.

At other times, we’ll work Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays as required, 7am to 1pm.
