6 February 2026
We’re upgrading Ballarat Station to improve accessibility, safety, and connectivity for all public transport users, while considering the heritage of the station.
The project will be complete in April 2026 when we’ll open the accessible pedestrian overpass, with a lift and stairs to each platform.
We’ll reopen the Ballarat Station local bus interchange on the northern side of the station from the first service on Sunday 1 March. The temporary bus stops on Lydiard Street will close after the last service on Saturday 28 February. We thank the community for their patience while we used this area to enable us to undertake essential project works at the station.
What we’re doing
To prepare to reopen the bus interchange in March and open the new overpass, lifts and stairs in April, we’ll continue works, including:
- nature strip and linemarking works to reinstate car parking spaces on Lydiard Street once the Ballarat Station local bus interchange has reopened
- completion works on the lifts and overpass
- completion works on the stairs and lobby areas on both sides of the rail line
- landscaping and installing signage and lighting
- removing the site compound on the north side of the station
- removing gravel and equipment from the southern works area.
The temporary bus layover bays on Railway Parade and Nolan Street will remain in place until the project is complete in April.
What to expect
While we work in Ballarat Station you may experience:
- minimal noise levels
- minimal vibration
- construction vehicles in our project site areas and surrounding roads.
When we’ll work
8pm to 5am each night, from Sunday 1 March until Wednesday 4 March, we’ll work to complete works on and around the platforms while trains aren’t running due to V/Line maintenance works.
At other times, we’ll work Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm and Saturdays as required, 7am to 1pm.
Changes to the way you travel
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however timing is subject to change.
