A better Boronia Station precinct is on the way

We're upgrading Boronia Station and building a new landscaped plaza on Dorset Road to deliver a modern and accessible precinct for the community. Final designs have been released and early works are underway.

The Boronia Station upgrade is a step closer, with final designs now released and major construction set to start next year.

The designs showcase a modern station that creates a safer and more accessible precinct for everyone. The designs also feature a landscaped plaza, providing a direct walkway from the station to the Dorset Road shopping precinct. This new public space will offer places to sit, with new planting and greenery. New canopies at each of the station’s entrances will enhance the overall look and feel of the station.

We listened to community feedback, and we’re making the station safer with more CCTV, better lighting and an upgraded ticket and protective service office. We’re also improving local access over the rail line by widening the station concourse.

To make the station more comfortable for passengers, we’re refreshing the station toilets and platforms with upgraded seating, new shelters and an updated waiting room.

Early works will start from November, when we start setting up site offices and delivering construction equipment. Major construction will kick off next year, with the project complete at the end of 2026. We’ll let the community know well in advance of any upcoming disruptions or changes in the local area during works.

New station precinct features

  • Landscaped plaza with places to sit, planting and greenery
  • Safety features including CCTV and more lighting
  • Upgraded platforms with improved seating, new shelters and waiting room
  • A more accessible station precinct with footpath upgrades, improved signage and more bike hoops

Your new Boronia Station precinct

The Boronia Station upgrade will improve accessibility, safety and passenger experience for train travellers and the broader community.

The new station precinct has been designed to directly link the station to local shopping precincts, making it safer and easier for locals to get to where they need to.

Boronia Station

We’re making the station safer and more accessible for everyone by widening the station concourse, adding more seating and enhancing signage.

To support these improvements, we’re moving the ticket office to the western entrance, near Erica Avenue, so it’s closer to the bus interchange and car park for even greater passenger convenience. The protective services office is moving to the front of the station at Lupton Way, creating a clear line of sight through the station and the new plaza, further boosting safety.

The project will also improve Lupton Way making it safer and easier for everyone to access the station.

New plaza

We’re building a new plaza to make getting around the local area easier and safer for everyone. The signalised pedestrian crossing is moving 50 metres north on Dorset Road, creating a safer and more convenient walk between the Dorset Square shops and the station.

The plaza will also provide a safe environment for locals to meet or relax, with added greenery, lighting and seating.

Station platform and facilities

We’re making the station more comfortable for passengers with new shelters, seating, refreshed toilets and improved lighting on the platforms.

The waiting room will receive a refresh, along with improvements to the station toilets. Additional CCTV will be installed throughout the station precinct, enhancing overall safety for passengers.

We’re adding more bike hoops near the ticket and protective service offices, as well as improved paths to the two station entrances from Erica Avenue and Lupton Way, creating greater accessibility.

New pocket park

We’re turning Boronia Station Reserve into a new pocket park. Once the project is complete, the pocket park will feature a lawn area, garden beds, tree plantings, extra seating and a nature play area.

Early works to bring you your station upgrade

Early works will continue into the new year, with key activities to be completed ahead of major construction including:

  • setting up site offices and facilities at 257 Dorset Road
  • fencing off work areas to keep the community and our workforce safe
  • relocating utility services and completing drainage works on Lupton Way in preparation for the new plaza and station buildings.

We’ll keep residents and businesses informed ahead of time about ongoing works taking place in the area.

Preparing the site

To prepare for construction, we’re setting up site facilities for our project team at 257 Dorset Road. As a result, you’ll see an increase in construction workers and vehicles in the area.

The site will mainly be used during normal daytime construction hours: Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 7am and 3pm.

When required, we'll also work on weekends or at night for major construction. Before this happens, we'll give residents and traders plenty of notice.

New traffic signals for Dorset and Chandler roads intersection

We’re upgrading the traffic signals to create a safer intersection at Dorset and Chandler roads by:

  • replacing the lanterns with LED lights, making them brighter and more visible
  • adding a dedicated right turn arrow for drivers turning from Dorset Road onto Chandler Road, improving safety and traffic flow.

We’ll be in touch with residents and traders in advance of these works.

Keeping you moving during construction

During construction, you’ll notice an increase in heavy machinery, trucks and workers around the local area. This may lead to occasional changes to how you drive, cycle and walk through the area, with potential for delays. There may be times when we need to reduce speed limits or close lanes on roads to maintain the safety of our work crews and the community.

While works are happening, we'll have traffic management in place on local roads and near our work areas.
