We're upgrading Boronia Station and building a new landscaped plaza on Dorset Road to deliver a modern and accessible precinct for the community. Works are now underway, and Boronia will have a new station by late 2026.
In addition to improved passenger safety and accessibility, we'll deliver a new landscaped plaza and new direct walkway to the Dorset Road shopping precinct.
This new public space will offer places to sit, with new planting and greenery. New canopies at each station entrance will enhance the overall look and feel of the station. To make the station more comfortable for passengers, we’re refreshing the station toilets and platforms with upgraded seating, new shelters and an updated waiting room.
We heard you want a station that is safer and more accessible -the new Boronia Station will have improved connections, CCTV and better lighting.
New station precinct features
- Landscaped plaza with places to sit, planting and greenery
- Safety features including CCTV and more lighting
- Upgraded platforms with improved seating, new shelters and waiting room
- A more accessible station precinct with footpath upgrades, improved signage, more bike hoops and retaining the secure bike parking near the Erica Avenue entrance.
How community feedback shaped the design
In late 2024, we shared early designs and asked you to have your say. Feedback has played an important role in shaping the final design and making sure the area meets the needs of the local community.
We heard | Final design |
The new precinct should improve commuter safety and accessibility. | The new station will be more accessible, have CCTV and better lighting. |
Urban design and station identity is important. | The stylish new station canopies and landscaping create a unique identity for the upgraded Boronia Station. |
You want better connections between the station and the shops. | New landscaped plaza provides a direct walkway from the station to Dorset Road. |
A better station experience
We’re making the station more comfortable for passengers with new shelters, seating, refreshed toilets and improved lighting on the platforms. The Boronia Station upgrade will also improve accessibility, safety and passenger experience for train travellers and the broader community.
Comfortable waiting area
The waiting room will receive a refresh, along with improvements to the station toilets. Additional CCTV will be installed throughout the station precinct, enhancing overall safety for passengers.
A safer precinct
The new station will include additional CCTV and more lighting. The protective services office is moving to the front of the station at Lupton Way, creating a clear line of sight through the station and the new plaza, further boosting safety.
Better accessibility
We’re adding more bike hoops near the ticket and protective services office, as well as improved paths to the two station entrances from Erica Avenue and Lupton Way, creating greater accessibility. The Parkiteer bike storage near Erica Avenue is being retained. To support these improvements, we’re moving the ticket office to the western entrance, near Erica Avenue, so it’s closer to the bus interchange and car park for even greater passenger convenience. The project will also improve Lupton Way making it safer and easier for everyone to access the station.
Traffic safety improvements
We’re also upgrading the traffic signals to create a safer intersection at Dorset and Chandler roads by:
- replacing the lanterns with LED lights, making them brighter and more visible
- adding a dedicated right turn arrow for drivers turning from Dorset Road onto Chandler Road, improving safety and traffic flow.
Landscaped plaza for better connections
We’re building a new landscaped plaza to make getting around the local area easier and safer for everyone. The plaza will provide a safe environment for locals to meet or relax, with added greenery, lighting and seating. The signalised pedestrian crossing is moving 50m north on Dorset Road, creating a safer and more convenient walk between the Dorset Square shops and the station.
New pocket park
We’re turning Boronia Station Reserve into a new pocket park. Once the project is complete, the pocket park will feature a lawn area, garden beds, tree plantings, extra seating and a nature play area.
Works are underway
Early works began November 2025, when we started setting up site offices and delivering construction equipment.
Major construction is ramping up in mid-2026, with the project complete by the end of the year. During construction, you’ll notice an increase in heavy machinery, trucks and workers around the local area. This may lead to occasional changes to how you drive, cycle and walk through the area, with potential for delays.
While works are happening, we'll have traffic management in place on local roads and near our work areas. We’ll let you know well in advance of any upcoming disruptions or changes in the local area during works.
School artwork mural: Where does the train take you?
We’ve partnered with the local Dillbadin Primary School to create an exciting new public artwork mural to be displayed in the project area.
The artwork celebrates the imagination of local young people and their ideas about where the new Boronia station can take them. Keep an eye out for the new mural which will be in the station precinct soon.
