8 July 2026

The Australian and Victorian governments have jointly funded $152.7 million towards development works for the future electrification of the Melton Line.

Investigation works will begin in July and be complete in mid 2027 to inform design, scope and cost for the future delivery of the project.

What we’re doing

From July to late 2026, we’ll be undertaking site investigations around the rail corridor between Sunshine and Melton, including:

  • Flora and fauna assessments
  • Cultural heritage investigations
  • Feature surveys
  • Utility mapping.

What to expect

You may notice:

  • Crews with testing and digging equipment
  • Construction vehicles and machinery
  • Traffic management may be required at times.

When we'll work

Works will occur weekdays between 7am and 6pm, with some low impact out of hours works if required.
