27 July 2026
We’re building West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD.
When the new V/Line station opens later in 2026, it will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. The new West Tarneit Station will also feature a welcoming and well-lit precinct, with landscaping, seating, separated walking and cycling paths, bike hoops and secure bike storage.
In August, we'll continue installing the remaining station features and furniture, as well as completing the permanent fencing and finishing works in the car park, bus interchange, and throughout the station precinct.
What we're doing
Throughout August and September, we’ll:
- Complete the line marking in the bus interchange.
- Complete building and line marking the cycling and pedestrian pathways around the station precinct.
- Complete installing permanent fencing around the platforms and station buildings.
- Continue installing station features and furniture, including handrails, bins, seats and tactiles.
- Carry out testing and commissioning of passenger information displays, ticketing systems and lighting.
- Continue installing directional and road signage around the station precinct.
- Complete landscaping, including planting native seedlings around the station precinct.
- Start to remove the site compound south of the rail line.
What to expect
While we work during the day, you may notice:
- Low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. We are actively monitoring dust and vibration daily on site and water carts are used across the site to help suppress dust.
- Construction machinery including excavators, rollers, trucks, and cranes, entering the project site and moving around the project area via Leakes Road, Modesto Drive, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Dohertys Road, Davis Road, and the rail corridor access track (from Tarneit Road).
- Rail plant and equipment entering the rail corridor via an access area east of Tarneit Road.
- Light towers in the works areas at night. When in use, lighting will be directed away from residential properties.
When we’ll work
- From 8pm, Sunday 2 August to 6am, Wednesday 5 August 2026 we’ll work each night to carry out critical permanent fencing works on the station platforms while trains aren’t running.
- Coaches will replace trains on sections of the Geelong and Warrnambool lines. Please visit the V/Line website for more information.
At other times, we’ll continue to work:
- Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays, 7am to 1pm (as required)
Where we’ll work
We’ll be working in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line and in the rail corridor. Dates are subject to change for reasons which include poor weather conditions.
