10 December 2025

We’re building West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD.

When the new V/Line station opens in 2026, it will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. The new West Tarneit Station will also feature a welcoming and well-lit precinct, with landscaping, seating, separated walking and cycling paths, bike hoops and secure bike storage.

Throughout December and January, we will continue with major works, constructing the new station platforms, underpass and replace rail tracks in the project area.

From Saturday 10 until Saturday 24 January, there will be major 24/7 works while trains are not running.

What we’re doing

As part of major construction works through December 2025, we’ll work through the day in the project area and in the rail corridor to complete critical project works, including:

  • undertake boring (drilling) works under the rail line (works will be through day and night until 10 December)
  • continue construction of the bus loop and car park, including installing drainage and utilities works
  • continue building up the platform embankments on both sides of the rail line
  • prepare platform canopy structures for installation on the platforms
  • continue the delivery of precast units for pedestrian underpass and station platform to the north and south sides of the project areas
  • installing services under track

While trains aren’t running in January 2026, we’ll work during the day and at night in the project area and in the rail corridor to complete critical project works, including:

  • lifting pre-made concrete platform and underpass sections into place with a 100-tonne crane
  • building the new pedestrian underpass
  • constructing the platforms and installing canopies on the platforms
  • installing new rail track in the vicinity of the new station
  • carrying out signalling and utilities works
  • installing fencing in and around the new station precinct

What to expect

While we work, you may notice:

  • moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. Dust and vibration are actively monitored daily on site, and water carts are used across the site to help supress dust
  • lighting towers, work crews, worker vehicles, and specialised rail equipment on the rail tracks during night works. Lighting towers will be directed away from residential properties where possible
  • construction plant and equipment entering the project site via Leakes Road (on the south) and Modesto Drive (on the north) and the rail corridor access track (Tarneit Road) including excavators, rollers, trucks, cranes, drilling rigs, and graders
  • rail plant and equipment entering the rail corridor via an access area east of Tarneit Road
  • increased truck movements and deliveries to the project area, as well as increased construction vehicles on local roads, including Leakes Road, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Modesto Drive, Dohertys Road and Davis Road.

As part of our safety requirements while working near the rail line, we will use a device that makes a loud ‘bang’ sound as trains approach the worksite, which warns workers a train is approaching. You may notice these loud bangs intermittently during daytime work hours while construction is taking place.

When we’ll work

We’ll work:

  • through day and night underneath the rail line until  Wednesday 10 December, we’ll be working at night when there is a reduced frequency of trains to undertake boring (drilling) works under the rail line.
  • through day and night from 7pm, Saturday 10 January 2026 until 6am, Saturday 24 January 2026, in the project area and in the rail corridor to complete critical works for the new station while trains aren’t running.

All impacted residents will be contacted in advance of the night works commencing.

Our crews will take a short holiday break from major construction works, however residents may still notice security personnel on-site during this time.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.

Where we’ll work

Works will occur in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line.
