26 June 2026

We’re building West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD.

When the new V/Line station opens later in 2026, it will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. The new West Tarneit Station will also feature a welcoming and well-lit precinct, with landscaping, seating, separated walking and cycling paths, bike hoops and secure bike storage.

In July, we’ll continue building entry and exit points around the station, the bus interchange and commuter car park, and we’ll carry out critical rail track alignment, signalling and utilities work.

What we're doing

Throughout July and early August, we’ll:

  • continue line marking in the bus interchange and commuter car park
  • carry out rail track works
  • continue building the cycling and pedestrian pathways around the station precinct
  • complete building the pedestrian stairs and ramps connecting to the station platforms
  • continue installing road signage within the bus interchange and car park
  • complete installing permanent fencing around the platforms and station buildings
  • continue installing station features and furniture including handrails, bins, seats, tactiles and passenger information displays
  • continue landscaping, including planting native seedlings around the station precinct
  • start to remove the site compound north of the rail corridor.

What to expect

While we work during the day, you may notice:

  • low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. We are actively monitoring dust and vibration daily on site and water carts are used across the site to help suppress dust.
  • construction machinery entering the project site and moving around the project area via Leakes Road, Modesto Drive, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Dohertys Road, Davis Road, and the rail corridor access track (from Tarneit Road). Construction vehicles include excavators, rollers, trucks, cranes, drilling rigs and graders.
  • rail plant and equipment entering the rail corridor via an access area east of Tarneit Road.
  • light towers in the works areas at night. When in use, lighting will be directed away from residential properties.

As part of our safety requirements while working near the rail line, we will use a device that makes a loud ‘bang’ sound as trains approach the worksite, which warns workers a train is approaching. You may notice these loud bangs intermittently during daytime work hours while construction is taking place.

When we’ll work

  • In July and August, there may be day shifts that commence at 6am and finish at 8pm to allow for concrete pours and essential asphalting works.
  • From 8pm, Sunday 5 July to 6am, Wednesday 8 July 2026 we’ll work each night to carry out essential rail track and signalling works in the rail corridor while trains aren’t running.
  • From 8pm, Sunday 2 August to 6am, Wednesday 5 August 2026 we’ll work each night to carry out critical permanent fencing works on the station platforms while trains aren’t running.
  • Coaches will replace trains on sections of the Geelong and Warrnambool lines. Please visit the V/Line website for more information.

At other times, we’ll continue to work:

  • Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
  • Saturdays, 7am to 1pm (as required)

Where we’ll work

We’ll be working in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line and in the rail corridor.

Projects in Tarneit delivered by other authorities

A number of other projects, being delivered by other agencies or authorities, are currently in construction within close proximity to the West Tarneit Station site. The Big Build Rail West Tarneit Station project team continues to coordinate with relevant parties through construction.
