30 April 2026
We’re building West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD.
When the new V/Line station opens later in 2026, it will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. The new West Tarneit Station will also feature a welcoming and well-lit precinct, with landscaping, seating, separated walking and cycling paths, bike hoops and secure bike storage.
In May and June, we’ll continue building the station platforms, bus interchange and commuter car park, as well as undertake critical signalling and utilities work.
We’ll work around the clock from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 May, as well as each night from Sunday 10 to Wednesday 13 May, and Sunday 7 to Wednesday 10 June.
What we're doing
Throughout May and early June, we’ll:
- carry out major signalling works to ensure trains run safely and efficiently
- continue building the station platforms, and the cycling and pedestrian pathways through the station precinct
- continue installing light poles, drainage channels, kerbs and pavement in the commuter car park and bus interchange
- continue installing tiles in the new pedestrian underpass
- install underground utility services in the project area
- install permanent fencing around the platforms and station precinct
- start landscaping in some areas within the new station precinct.
What to expect
While we work, you may notice:
- Low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. We are actively monitoring dust and vibration daily on site and water carts are used across the site to help suppress dust.
- Construction machinery entering the project site and moving around the project area via Leakes Road, Modesto Drive, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Dohertys Road, Davis Road, and the rail corridor access track (from Tarneit Road). Construction vehicles include excavators, rollers, trucks, cranes, drilling rigs and graders.
- Light towers in the works areas at night. When in use, lighting will be directed away from residential properties.
As part of our safety requirements while working near the rail line, we will use a device that makes a loud ‘bang’ sound as trains approach the worksite, which warns workers a train is approaching. You may notice these loud bangs intermittently during daytime work hours while construction is taking place.
When we’ll work
- From 8pm, Sunday 10 May to 6am, Wednesday 13 May we’ll work each night to carry out essential signalling works in the rail corridor while trains aren’t running.
- Around the clock from 7pm, Tuesday 26 May until 6am, Saturday 30 May in the project area and in the rail corridor to complete critical station works while trains aren’t running.
- From 8pm, Sunday 7 June to 6am, Wednesday 10 June we’ll work each night to carry out essential track works in the rail corridor while trains aren’t running.
All residents that may be impacted will be contacted in advance of the night works commencing. We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.
At other times, we’ll continue to work:
- Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays, 7am to 1pm (as required)
Where we’ll work
We’ll be working in the project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line.
