10 November 2025
We’re building West Tarneit Station to better connect the growing suburbs of the west to Melbourne’s CBD.
When the new V/Line station opens in 2026, it will include a 4-bay bus interchange, parking for up to 400 commuters, and an accessible pedestrian underpass. The new West Tarneit Station will also feature a welcoming and well-lit precinct, with landscaping, seating, separated walking and cycling paths, bike hoops and secure bike storage.
What we’re doing
As part of major construction works through November, we’ll:
- continue construction of the bus interchange and car park, including drainage and utilities works
- continue building up the platform embankments on both sides of the rail line
- install utilities and storm water drainage to service the new platforms
- continue construction of the platform canopy foundations
- deliver pre-fabricated platform canopy frames to the site and begin installation of the cladding and roofing
- deliver pre-cast platform walls and underpass sections to the site
- prepare crane pad foundations in preparation for the construction of the pedestrian underpass.
What to expect
While we work, you may notice:
- low to moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration. Dust and vibration levels are actively monitored daily on site. Water carts are used across the site to help supress dust.
- lighting towers, work crews, worker vehicles, and specialised rail equipment on the rail tracks during night works
- construction plant and equipment entering the project site via Leakes Road (on the south) and Modesto Drive (on the north) including excavators, rollers, trucks, cranes, drilling rigs, and graders
- increased construction vehicles and trucks on local roads, including Leakes Road, Tarneit Road, Odessey Boulevard, Modesto Drive, Dohertys Road and Davis Road.
To meet our safety requirements while we work near the rail line, we'll use a device that makes a loud bang sound as trains approach the worksite. You may notice loud bangs intermittently during daytime work hours while construction works are taking place.
Where we’ll work
Works will occur in the West Tarneit Station project area, near the corner of Leakes and Davis roads, on the north and south sides of the rail line. Please see map showing our project site area (section in red) and other projects that are also being delivered locally.
When we’ll work
From early to mid November nightly from 8pm to 5am for a 2 week period, we’ll be working at night when there is a reduced frequency of trains to undertake boring (drilling) works under the rail line. We’ll notify nearby residents prior to the works officially commencing.
From 8pm to 5am each night from Sunday 23 November until Wednesday 26 November, we’ll complete signalling works in the rail corridor, with no noise impacts.
At other times, through to the end of construction in 2026, we’ll work:
- Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm
- Saturdays 7am to 1pm
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule however dates are subject to change.
Projects in Tarneit delivered by other authorities
A number of other projects, being delivered by other agencies or authorities, are currently in construction in close proximity to the West Tarneit Station site, as shown in map below. The Big Build Rail West Tarneit Station team continues to coordinate with relevant parties.
