We’re removing the level crossings at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and Bedford Road, Ringwood, which will make Ringwood level crossing free in 2024, a year ahead of schedule.

We're working through our major construction blitz at Bedford Road until late March 2024 to remove the level crossing and build the new rail trench under the road. Bedford Road is closed at the level crossing throughout these works. When complete, Bedford Road will be level crossing free, a year ahead of schedule.

Access to Rosewarne Lane closed 18 to 24 March

Access to Rosewarne Lane will be closed from 7pm to 7am, each night from Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March and from 12.30am, Saturday 23 March to 6pm, Sunday 24 March while road asphalting and line marking works take place on Bedford Road. Pedestrian access into Rosewarne Lane will remain open during this time.

Patrons accessing the Central Ringwood Community Centre and Ringwood Ballet School will need to park on Bedford Road or Hill Street during these times as the Rosewarne Lane car park will be unavailable. NB: Access to the Central Ringwood Community Centre’s Sustainability Fair via Rosewarne Lane on Sunday 17 March (10am-2pm) will be open.


Impacts to local roads and parking

Rosewarne Lane

7pm to 7am, Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March and 12.30am to 6pm, Saturday 23 to Sunday 24 March:

  • Vehicle access into Rosewarne Lane unavailable. Pedestrian access maintained at all times
  • Patrons accessing the Central Ringwood Community Centre and Ringwood Ballet School will need to park on Bedford Road or Hill Street during these times.

Bedford Road

Until late March 2024:

  • Bedford Road closed between Pitt Street and Rosewarne Lane.
  • Detours available via Warrandyte Road, Canterbury Road, Dublin Road and Maroondah Highway.
  • Access into Rosewarne Lane will be closed as above

Great Ryrie Street

Until late March 2024:

  • Great Ryrie Street closed at the Bedford Road intersection.
  • No left turn into Great Ryrie Street from Best Street.
  • Local detours available via Ford Street, Best Street and David Street.

Pitt Street

Until late March 2024:

  • Pitt Street closed at the Bedford Road intersection.
  • Local detour via Warrandyte Road.

Lena Grove

Until late March 2024:

  • No on-street parking on both sides of Lena Grove to enable the safe movement of trucks carrying materials and soil from the rail corridor.

Ford Street, Best Street and David Street

Until late March 2024:

  • To enable the safe movement of buses during major construction works, there will be no on-street parking:
    • on both sides of Best Street
    • on both sides of Ford Street (between Bedford Rd and Best St) on one side of David Street.

Fremont Street, Tudor Court, Campbell Street

Until late March 2024:

  • To enable the safe movement of buses during major construction works, there will be no on-street parking on one side of Fremont Street, Tudor Court and Campbell streets.

Heathmont Rail Trail, Myrtle Avenue

7am to 6pm, Saturday 16 March to Sunday 24 March:

  • Sections of Heathmont Rail Trail will have traffic management assistance to help users get around works.

Heathmont Road, Heathmont

7am to 6pm, Friday 15 March to Wednesday 20 March:

  • Sections of Heathmont Rail Trail closed. Detour available on Heathmont Road.

Impacts during major construction blitz

There will be a range of impacts during the construction blitz at Bedford Road.

  • Pedestrians and drivers – no access across Bedford Road at the level crossing to late March 2024.
  • Train passengers – buses will replace trains on sections of the Belgrave and Lilydale Lines until late March 2024. Plan ahead and check the PTV website for further information on disruptions.
  • Bus passengers – during the Bedford Road closure, there will be PTV 679 and 380 bus stop and bus route impacts. Plan ahead and check the PTV website for further information on disruptions.
  • School bus passengers – school bus service detours will be in place. The bus stop outside Ringwood Secondary College will be closed and students will be dropped off and picked up from the bus stop at the corner of Bedford Road and Tooronga Road.

What to expect

  • Onsite traffic management will be in place to help road users and pedestrians navigate around the local area safely. Moderate noise from construction machinery such as piling rigs, concrete trucks and excavators.
  • An increase in workers, truck movements and construction equipment.
  • Targeted lighting for work areas with measures in place to prevent significant light spill into nearby properties.
  • Night access to site offices, sheds and laydown areas.
  • Please be aware works can sometimes take longer than expected or need to be rescheduled due to weather and other factors outside of our control.
  • There may be times where we need to adjust our works and will advise when this is happening.

During construction, we actively monitor noise, dust, and vibration levels to make sure they are within Environment Protection Authority control guidelines. We encourage local residents to please contact us if they have any further queries about these works. We’ll be in touch with residents who are more directly impacted.
