Major works are underway to remove level crossings at Grange, Koornang, Murrumbeena and Poath roads and rebuild stations at Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale.

What we’ve been doing

A massive gantry crane and straddle carrier system will be used to construct the elevated rail between Caulfield and Hughesdale. The straddle carrier and support beams are now fully assembled and are in place on the elevated rail.

What’s coming up

The straddle carrier will soon be in operation (weather permitting). By the end of September over 30 spans will be placed by the carrier, starting at Murrumbeena Station then moving up towards Carnegie. So far over 75% of piers have been installed with the rest to be finished over the coming months.

Disruptions

• Buses will replace trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines: between Caulfield and Dandenong stations from Saturday 2 September 12.30am to Sunday 3 September 2017 (last service).
• Between late August and mid September, a series of nightly road closures are planned at the Murrumbeena Road level crossing from 7pm to 6am to safely begin installation of the elevated rail over Murrumbeena Road.

School holiday fun

Throughout July the project team ran a program of events to encourage visitors to the Murrumbeena shopping precinct to support local businesses during the Murrumbeena Station closure.

Christmas in July saw a jolly Santa and friendly elf hand out locally sourced gifts to children along Neerim Road. Family Fun Days were held with face painting, a roving balloon artist and a one man band playing hits for all to enjoy.

Glen Eira City Council invites feedback on Murrumbeena transformation designs

Following community consultation around a range of ‘transformation concepts’, Glen Eira City Council has developed two potential designs for Murrumbeena.

These designs consider feedback we received about parking, access, traffic in local streets and other community concerns and look to deliver the community’s vision for Murrumbeena. Your feedback will help Council to make an informed decision.
