Major works to remove the Clayton Road and Centre Road level crossings and rebuild Clayton Station are underway.

These crossings are among Victoria's worst, with boom gates down for more than 82 minutes in the morning peak.

A month of progress

Elevated works at Clayton are progressing with over 25 Super T beams installed since May. In total over 170 beams will be lifted by crane and placed on top of the support piers to form the foundation of the elevated rail decking.

Pier installation activities picked up this month with over 30 support piers now in place.

Over the coming month, Super T beams will continue to be installed along Carinish Road, bringing us one step closer to elevated rail.

Future focus

The project will deliver significant benefits to Melburnians – improving safety, reducing road congestion and creating 22.5 hectares of new community space.

We are also helping build a skilled workforce for the future. In partnership with the Chisholm Institute, we have established a new training centre (New Employment Exchange and Training), which is providing tailored training for apprentices and entry-level workers.

Mythbuster

Myth: There won’t be any room left for parkland around station car parking.

Truth: The elevated structure will me We will be able to deliver around 500 new parking spaces at key locations along the corridor without substantially impacting the linear parkland created by the project.

Rail disruptions

We are working hard to minimise disruptions, with trains running the majority of the time. However, there will be some disruptions as we deliver this significant project:

• Buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from 12.30am Saturday 22 July until the  last service on Sunday 23 July 2017. Train services will resume on Monday 24 July 2017.
