To prepare for more trains, more often once the Metro Tunnel opens later this year, we’re closing Webster Street at the level crossing and building a new road under the rail line. The new underpass will connect Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond roads.
What we’re doing
Webster Street will be permanently closed at the level crossing from 9pm, Friday 10 October. The new shared walking and cycling path along Webster Street will be open to pedestrians and cyclists from 7am, Friday 10 October.
With Webster Street closed at the level crossing there will be changes to the way you travel through Dandenong while we’re building the new road underpass. Please see map below.
We'll work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the rail corridor between Cheltenham Road and Frankston-Dandenong Road to complete signalling, track and overhead wiring works.
Works will take place day and night from 9pm, Friday 10 October to 2am, Friday 24 October while the trains are not running.
What to expect
- Webster Street permanently closed at the level crossing from 9pm, Friday 10 October.
- Traffic management in place to assist drivers, pedestrians and bike riders.
- Works taking place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the rail corridor.
- Increase in noise, vibration, lighting and dust. Water carts and sweepers will be used to mitigate dust.
Access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times.
We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.
Changes to the way you travel
Rail
To allow crews to safely complete works in the rail corridor, buses will replace trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 8.30pm, Friday 10 October to last service, Thursday 23 October.
Please allow extra time when travelling. For more information and to plan your journey, visit Transport Victoria.
