The Cranbourne and Pakenham lines are boom gate free and trains are running through the Metro Tunnel. We’re continuing construction of the new road under the rail line, connecting Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond roads. The new road underpass will open in spring – 2 years ahead of schedule.

What we’re doing

We’re completing major road works to connect the new road underpass to Cheltenham Road and Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street in August and September.

To safely complete works, we’ll temporarily close sections of Cheltenham Road, Princes Highway–Lonsdale Street, parking spaces in Dandenong Station car park, the Cheltenham and Hammond roads intersection and nearby streets, including lanes and pedestrian paths. Please see maps below.

What to expect

• Works 24 hours a day in August and September
• Road, lane and pedestrian path closures with detours and traffic management in place
• Temporary car space closures
• Increased noise, vibration, vehicles and workers in the area. Water carts and street sweepers will be used to minimise dust.

Any properties impacted by these works will be contacted directly. Access will be maintained for businesses, residents and emergency services.

We’ll make every effort to complete works on schedule; however, dates and times are subject to change.

Changes to the way you travel

Road

• Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street:
  • closed between Foster and 109 Lonsdale streets from 7pm, Friday 14 August to 7pm, Sunday 16 August.  Access will be maintained to Lonsdale Street Service Road via Thomas Street and to   businesses between 109 Princes HighwayLonsdale and Webster streets.
  • intermittent northbound and southbound lane closures between Foster and Webster streets from 9am to 3pm and 8pm to 6am, August to late September.
  • closed northbound between Foster and Webster streets from 9pm to 6am each night, Tuesday 18 August and Wednesday 19 August. Access to Webster Street maintained before 12am.
• Cheltenham and Hammond roads intersection:
  • closed with detours in place from 8pm to 6am each night on Monday 24 August, Monday 7 September, Tuesday 8 September, Monday 14 September, Tuesday 15 September, Wednesday 16 September and Monday 21 September. Expect up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
  • closed with detours in place from 8pm, Wednesday 9 September to 6am, Sunday 13 September. Expect up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
  • intermittent closures with detours in place from 9am to 3pm on Monday 14 September, Tuesday 15 September and Wednesday 16 September. Expect up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
• Cheltenham Road:
  • closed between 1 Cheltenham Road and Hammond Road from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.
  • intermittent lane closures between George and Station streets from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.
  • changed traffic conditions and intermittent lane closures from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September. Expect up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
• Hammond Road:
  • changed traffic conditions and intermittent lane closures from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September. Expect up to 15 minutes extra travel time.

Parking

• Dandenong Station Hammond Road car park temporary closure of up to 60 station car spaces from 8pm, Friday 21 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September. Alternate parking available in the Carroll Lane car park.
• Station Street north of Cheltenham Road temporary closure of up to 10 on-street car spaces from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.
• Station Street north of Cheltenham Road gravel car park at the northern end of Station Street closed from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September. Alternate parking available in the Carroll Lane car park.
• Cheltenham Road temporary closure of up to 10 on-street car spaces between Carroll Lane and Hammond Road from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.
• Hammond Road temporary closure of up to 6 on-street car spaces on the eastern side from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.

Pedestrian

• Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street pedestrian detours at Foster and Webster streets from 7pm, Friday 14 August to 7pm, Sunday 16 August, with pedestrian access to Webster Street only.
• Cheltenham Road pedestrian path closed between Hammond Road and Foster Street from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 5am, Tuesday 22 September, with detour via Dandenong Station.

Bus

• Cheltenham Road bus stops for routes 857 and 901 closed at Keneally Street/Cheltenham Road and Station Street/Cheltenham Road from 8pm, Monday 24 August to 6am, Tuesday 25 August, and from 8pm, Monday 7 September to 5am, Tuesday 22 September.
