We’re removing the Webster Street level crossing and building a new road under the rail line, connecting Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond roads.

To make way for the new road underpass, United Energy* will install new power poles and remove the old power poles on Thomas Street, Lonsdale Street-Service Road and Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street.

These works will take place from Tuesday 29 April to Friday 2 May, on Sunday 4 May and Sunday 25 May.

What to expect

• An increase in heavy vehicles and workers in the area

Changes to the way you travel

As these works involve live electrical wires, for the safety of the community and crews, there will be reduced speeds and changes to how you travel through the area.

Pedestrian detours and traffic management will be in place to assist access to businesses on Lonsdale Street-Service Road while works are underway. Please follow signage and the direction of traffic controllers.

From Tuesday 29 April to Friday 2 May, 8am to 5pm each day:

• Thomas Street will be closed at the southern end, including on-street car parking.
• Access to local businesses will be maintained via traffic management

On Sunday 4 May, 8am to 5pm:

• Lonsdale Street-Service Road and Thomas Street at the southern end will be closed, including on-street car parking
• Lanes will be closed in both directions on Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street with 2-way traffic maintained
• Traffic may be stopped on Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street for up to 10 minutes at a time to safely complete works
• Free all-day available parking at Dandy Parking on Thomas Street, with traffic management in place to assist. Access via Foster Street.
• Pedestrian access from Dandy Parking to businesses on Lonsdale Street will be maintained with traffic management in place. Please follow signage and the direction of traffic controllers.

On Sunday 25 May, 8am to 5pm:

• Thomas Street will be closed at the southern end, including on-street car-parking
• Lanes will be closed in both directions on Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street with 2-way traffic maintained
• Traffic may be stopped on Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street for up to 10 minutes at a time to safely complete works
• Access to local businesses will be maintained via traffic management
• Free all-day parking available at Dandy Parking on Thomas Street, with traffic management in place to assist. Access via Foster Street.
