Works to start this year!

A contract to remove 6 more dangerous and congested level crossings, including the one at Abbotts Road in Dandenong South, has been awarded with works to kick off later this year.

Activate, a consortium including McConnell Dowell Constructors, Arup, and Mott MacDonald, will first deliver the Kororoit Creek Road level crossing removal and partial duplication of the Altona Loop.

They will then remove the Abbotts Road level crossing, followed by a further four level crossings on the Werribee and Williamstown lines.

Removing the Abbotts Road crossing will boost employment in Melbourne's south east, supporting jobs, apprentices, and trainees.

Travel will be easier and safer – whether you're a train commuter, pedestrian, cyclist, or driver.

Community involvement

Community consultation is a critical part of the Level Crossing Removal Project and helped determine the rail bridge solution to remove the level crossing at Abbotts Road in Dandenong South.

We will seek more input from the community to refine and finalise the design for the bridge structure, so stay tuned for more updates.

• 2 industry forums, attended by around 115 local business owners, workers, and representatives.
• 9 community drop-in information and feedback sessions since February 2016.
• 6 Business Liaison Group meetings with representatives from local industry.

What's next?

The design for the Abbotts Road bridge will be finalised in the coming months with input from the local community.

Early works will then commence in late 2017. We will also establish a Stakeholder Liaison Group to promote community involvement in the delivery of the project. The group will represent residents and local traders, and meet regularly as the project progresses.

The stakeholder Liaison Group will ensure that individuals and businesses affected by the project have an opportunity to provide feedback on design and construction activities.
