A new road bridge for Camms Road

The Victorian Government is removing the dangerous level crossing at Camms Road, Cranbourne as part of a $1 billion investment to upgrade the Cranbourne line that will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow more trains to run more often.

We're removing the Camms Road level crossing by building a new road bridge over the rail line. This is one of the last level crossings to go on the busy Cranbourne Line.

The new road bridge will free up traffic for the 12,000 vehicles that pass through the crossing each day.

We’re building the road bridge alongside the existing road allowing us to keep Camms Road open for the majority of construction. It also means fewer disruptions to passengers along the Cranbourne line.

The Victorian Government is also delivering 400 new and upgraded car parking spaces at Cranbourne Station as part of the Car Parks for Commuters Program and the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution. The new car park will feature improved CCTV and lighting as well as more bike parking facilities.

The level crossing will be gone for good by 2024 - one year ahead of schedule.

New shared use and pedestrian paths will connect to existing routes in the area, improving access to local schools, shops and services on either side of the rail line.

Changes to local roads

We'll need to change some local connections to build the new road bridge.

Once the new bridge is complete, Sharpe Street will be truncated and will no longer connect to Camms Road.

Vehicles will still be able to access Camms Road via Circle Drive South and Highview Avenue. Detouring along Circle Drive South will add 300 metres to the trip, or an additional minute for drivers.

A new roundabout will connect Camms Road to Murray Court and Fairfield Street. Fairfield Street will extend under the new road bridge to connect to Murray Court. Buses will use this new connection to access Camms Road.

A roundabout is the safest option for connecting Camms Road to Murray Court and Fairfield Street. It will slow vehicles that are exiting the new road bridge while maintaining traffic movement and minimising wait times.
