On 11 October 2018, the Minister for Planning designated the Balcombe Road, Mentone Level Crossing Removal Project Area in two parts under section 95 of the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009 (MTPF Act).

The first project area is shown in the plans LEGL./17-356 Sheets 1 to 50 (inclusive) PDF, 4.9 MB. The second project area is shown in the plans LEGL./18-105 Sheets 1 to 1 PDF, 2.5 MB.

The designation of the project area enables the project proponent (the Secretary to the Department of Transport and Planning) to use the project delivery powers under the MTPF Act.
