Parking and pedestrian crossing changes
We’re removing 18 level crossings and building 12 new stations as part of a $3 billion upgrade of the Frankston line.
From Edithvale to Bonbeach we’re removing 5 dangerous level crossings, building 3 new stations, fixing local road networks and upgrading dangerous intersections.
As part of these works in Chelsea, there will be changes to parking and pedestrian crossings along Station Street and the Nepean Highway.
To make room for the new intersection over the rail line at Thames Promenade and the new Chelsea Station, parking spaces along Nepean Highway and Station Street will need to be relocated.
Rail commuter car parking at the new Chelsea Station will be at the southern end of the station, connected by a pedestrian path to make it safer to get from your car to the station.
New pedestrian crossings will be added at Thames Promenade, The Strand, Catherine Avenue and Argyle Avenue.
Project benefits
- Improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists with dedicated shared use paths and new pedestrian crossings
- Better all-abilities access and parking
- New kiss’n’ride pick-up and drop-off zones
- Dedicated bus interchange reducing traffic congestion on Station Street
- Parkiteer bike cage and more bike hoops
With more than 4km of new shared use path between Edithvale and Bonbeach and more bike facilities, we're improving connections to public transport, local shops and the beach.
