Introducing Glen Huntly Station's new public art

Neon Terrains' developed by Meagan Streader consists of two neon sculptures, Everlasting and Love Creeper installed inside custom-made glass display cases within the concourse of the new Glen Huntly Station.

These integrated works honour the local environment and surrounding architecture while enhancing the pedestrian experience at Glen Huntly Station. Meagan identified local flora species, Everlasting and Love Creeper in the Glen Eira area to showcase as feature pieces in the precinct.

This installation uses hand-formed neon glass components in carefully selected hues of warm white, yellows, greens, blues and purples to complement the architectural elements of the site. Layered and overlapping, these gentle illuminated forms glow from glass display cases and embellish the forecourt are behind the main brick arch facade.

Meet the Artist: Meagan Streader

Through multifaceted and site-specific transformations, Meagan Streader’s artworks redefine conventional spaces, objects and materials. She works with light and space, predominantly in sculpture and installation.

‘Light is a medium that has highly transformative and sensory qualities,’ Meagan says. ‘It gives me the freedom to totally transform space, or create out-of-this world spaces for exploration, awe and contemplation. Through light, I aim to foster connections between people and place by immersing them in shared experiences of wonderment. Working with light sometimes makes me feel like I am working with magic.’

Streader has exhibited in museums and created major site-specific works both nationally and internationally.
