On 5 January 2021, the Minister for Planning designated the Glen Huntly Level Crossing Removal Project Area under section 95 of the Major Transport Projects Facilitation Act 2009 (MTPF Act). A variation to the project area was made on 24 November 2021 under section 96 of the MTPF Act.

The project area is shown in the plans LEGL./20-020 Sheets 1 to 13 (inclusive). The variation to the project area is shown in LEGL./21-530 Sheets 1 to 8 (inclusive).

The designation of the project area enables the project proponent (the Secretary to the Department of Transport and Planning) to use the project delivery powers under the MTPF Act.
