29 November 2023

We’re making the Frankston Line level crossing free by removing all 27 of the dangerous and congested level crossings by 2029 and building 17 new stations, improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

Finishing works on the Glen Huntly Level Crossing Removal Project are well underway. In November, we’ve:

  • resurfaced and reopened Dorothy Avenue, Station Place and Royal Avenue
  • reopened the Huntly Street and Royal Avenue car parks
  • opened the Shared Use Path between Wattle Avenue and Neerim Road.

Project works will pause from Wednesday 20 December until Wednesday 10 January 2024.

When works resume next year, we’ll continue:

  • shared use path construction
  • soft and hard landscaping
  • remaining reinstatement works.

The project will be fully complete in 2024 – one year ahead of schedule.

Upcoming works

During December, we’ll:

  • work 24 hours a day from Friday 1 December until Monday 4 December. During this time buses will replace trains on the Frankston Line between Richmond and Moorabbin stations
  • work our standard construction hours from 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 3.30pm on Saturdays to continue finishing works within the project area, including on local roads, footpaths, kerbs and car parks.

All local roads and new station car parking spaces will be open by the end of the month.

What to expect

While we work, you will notice:

  • workers, trucks, vehicles and equipment
  • impacts to local roads in and around the project area
  • targeted lighting to illuminate work areas with measures in place to prevent light spill
  • traffic management in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians through the area safely.
