24 August 2023

We’re making the Frankston Line level crossing free by removing all 27 of the dangerous and congested level crossings by 2029 and building 17 new stations, improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

We’ve removed the level crossings at Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road, Glen Huntly, by lowering the rail line into a trench.

Glen Huntly and Neerim roads are now open and Frankston Line trains have resumed. All four Glen Huntly Station lifts will be working from Thursday 24 August.

The project will be fully complete by 2024 – one year ahead of schedule.

Upcoming works

During September, we’ll:

  • work 24 hours a day from Friday 1 September to Monday 4 September
  • close Neerim Road between 8.30pm Friday 1 September to 4am Monday 4 September to complete road resurfacing works. During this time buses will replace trains on sections of the Frankston, Stony Point, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.
  • continue general works within the project area, including road, footpath and kerb rectification.

We’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents to discuss what this means for individual households.

What to expect

While we work, you will notice:

  • works during construction hours in the project area, 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3.30pm on Saturdays
  • workers, trucks, vehicles, and equipment in the area
  • impacts to local roads in and around the project area
  • targeted lighting to safely illuminate work areas with measures in place to prevent light spill
