3 November 2023

We’re making the Frankston Line level crossing free by removing all 27 of the dangerous and congested level crossings by 2029 and building 17 new stations, improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

We’ve removed the level crossings at Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road, Glen Huntly, by lowering the rail line into a trench.

Glen Huntly and Neerim roads are open, and all four lifts are open at Glen Huntly Station improving accessibility.

The project will be fully complete by 2024 – one year ahead of schedule.

Upcoming works

During November, we’ll:

  • work 24 hours a day from Friday 17 November until Monday 20 November. During this time buses will replace trains on the Frankston Line between Richmond and Mordialloc stations
  • at other times we will be working 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 3.30pm on Saturdays to continue finishing works within the project area, including on local roads, footpaths, kerbs and car parks.

Most new station car parking spaces will be open by the end of the month.

What to expect

While we work, you will notice:

  • workers, trucks, vehicles and equipment
  • impacts to local roads in and around the project area – see next section
  • targeted lighting to illuminate work areas with measures in place to prevent light spill
  • traffic management in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians through the area safely.
