31 July 2023

We’re making the Frankston Line level crossing free by removing all 27 of the dangerous and congested level crossings by 2029 and building 17 new stations, improving safety, reducing congestion and allowing more trains to run more often.

We’ve removed the dangerous and congested level crossings at Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road and will soon open the new Glen Huntly Station to passengers with better facilities and more services from early August.

24-hour construction blitz is expected to finish next week

During the 2 month construction blitz we:

  • excavated 160,000 cubic metres of material to create the rail trench
  • poured 25,000 cubic meters of concrete to form the base and walls of the trench
  • installed the new Glen Huntly Station buildings
  • installed the bridge beams at Neerim and Glen Huntly roads
  • finished the Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road bridges over the trench
  • installed the new tram infrastructure
  • installed new signalling, overhead wiring and infrastructure within the trench
  • installed new ballast, rail and rail infrastructure.

Upcoming works

Throughout August, construction activities will continue, but the volume will decrease significantly as we gradually demobilise workers and machinery across the project area.

During August, we’ll:

  • close Neerim Road between 7pm and 7am for 3 nights to complete road resurfacing works. We’ll provide more information including exact dates in a separate notification prior to these works
  • continue to build the new Glen Huntly Station, including bricklaying to create the archway, station fit-out and installation of the new lifts.

What to expect

While we work, you will notice:

  • 24-hour works within the station precinct, below Glen Huntly Road
  • works during standard construction hours in the project area, 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3.30pm on Saturdays
  • workers, trucks, vehicles, and equipment in the area
  • minor impacts to local roads in and around the project area
  • traffic management in place to help guide motorists and pedestrians through the area safely.
