11 August 2025

We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale by building new rail bridges.

We’ll also close the Bear Street level crossing in Mordialloc and build a new Mordialloc Station.

We’ll keep Frankston Line passengers moving during major construction by introducing single line running at Mordialloc Station.

Single line running is where trains run in both directions on a single track during major works – reducing the need for planned rail disruptions and passengers on rail replacement buses.

From Friday 29 August 2025 to mid 2026 Frankston Line services will run to an altered timetable, which may mean changes for you.

Read on to find out more about how single line running works and changes to travel.

Single line running overview

Single line running is a temporary rail operation, where trains travel in both directions on a single track to keep passengers on trains rather than replacement buses.

To prepare for single line running, we’ll remove Platform 2 at Mordialloc Station and 2 of the 3 existing tracks during a construction blitz in August.

We’ll put safety measures in place to ensure trains can travel safely in both directions on one track, including barriers, safe work zones and fencing.

Once single line running is in place and trains are running on a single track, we’ll start to build the new rail bridges and new Mordialloc Station next to the live track.

Benefits of single line running

  • keeps Frankston Line passengers moving throughout most of major construction
  • reduces the need for planned rail disruptions and rail replacement buses
  • maintains access to Mordialloc Station for locals

Changes for Frankston Line passengers

While single line running is in place at Mordialloc Station, there will be changes to the way Frankston Line passengers travel.

From first service on Friday 29 August until mid 2026, Frankston Line trains will run to an altered timetable, with adjustments to overall service levels, and changes to stopping patterns across the Frankston Line to keep trains running during major works.

If you're heading into the city, catch an earlier train to make your journey smoother. With altered services on the Frankston Line, trains may be busier than usual during peak times.

Changes for Mordialloc Station passengers

From Friday 29 August to mid 2026 we'll close Platform 2 at Mordialloc Station and passengers will access train services in both directions from Platform 1.

Passengers can access Platform 1 via McDonald Street, Bear Street, or Main Street.

The majority of the Mordialloc Station car park is now closed. Accessible car spaces remain available outside Platform 1.

From 8.30pm, Monday 18 August, the station underpass will close. Allow more time for parking your car and walking to the station to catch your train.

Alternative parking is available at:

  • Parkdale Station, Como Parade East and West
  • Mentone Station, Como Parade East and West
  • Cheltenham Station car park and on Edward Street
  • Kingston City Council residents with a valid beach parking permit can park at Peter Scullin Reserve.

The Parkiteer cage is closed and bicycle hoops remain available outside Platform 1. Alternative secure bicycle parking is available at Parkdale and Edithvale stations.

Mordialloc Station will remain open throughout most of the construction period. We'll communicate any changes in advance, including when buses replace trains.
