30 March 2026
We’re removing the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges. We’ve already closed the Bear Street, Mordialloc level crossing and are building a new Mordialloc Station.
What we’re doing
From April, works will ramp up as we are in the final few weeks of works ahead of the new Mordialloc Station opening and trains running on the new rail bridges from late May. At this time, we’ll also permanently remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale.
Upcoming works in April
During April, we’ll continue to:
- upgrade Albert Street, Mordialloc with new kerbs, footpaths, traffic signals and bus bays
- progress works in the new station precinct and on the rail bridges
- install cables and remove overhead wires within the rail corridor.
Our usual working hours are Monday to Sunday 7am to 7pm. We’ll make every effort to complete these works on schedule, however dates are subject to change.
Major construction in May
From Thursday 30 April to Thursday 21 May, our crews will work around the clock to prepare the new station and elevated rail bridges to open to passengers. We will:
- remove existing rail infrastructure, including tracks and the boom gates
- install the remaining station and rail infrastructure needed for trains to run on the elevated rail
- complete and open the new Pine Crescent link road in Aspendale, connecting Station Street to Nepean Highway
- complete road and kerb reinstatement, including sections of the new station car parking.
There will be continuous day and night works during this 3 week period. You may notice increased noise, vibration, lighting and heavy vehicle movements across the area. We’ll be in touch with directly impacted residents and traders in advance.
What to expect
- Increased construction activity, machinery, vehicles and workers and noticeable traffic congestion
- Construction noise, dust and vibration near works areas
- Additional lighting near works areas at night, directed away from residential properties where possible
- Changes to pedestrian access and parking; short term road closures and detours. Please allow extra travel time.
We appreciate your patience while we complete these essential works and remove these dangerous and congested level crossings for good.
Changes to the way you travel
Road closures, alternative travel routes and detours may change at times. Traffic management will be in place during works to safely guide you through the area – please follow signage and allow extra time.
