20 July 2026
We’ve removed the level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges. The new premium Mordialloc Station opened on Thursday 21 May.
What we’re doing
Over the coming months, we will continue finishing works across the new station precinct and surrounding area, including new walking and cycling paths, landscaping and road reinstatement. We will:
- continue road, footpath and kerb reinstatement works
- complete landscaping
- finish the Mordialloc Station precinct, including rail passenger parking and walking and cycling paths
- install a drainage line in the rail corridor between McDonald Street and the Mordialloc Scout Hall
- complete lighting, fencing and traffic island works.
We'll make every effort to complete these works on schedule; however, dates are subject to change.
As the project enters its final stages, some activities may require night works or temporary traffic changes, including temporary lane and road closures.
What to expect
- Changes to pedestrian access, including minor detours, while we continue building walking and cycling paths in the area.
- Continuing lane and road closures. See the table below for more information.
- Construction vehicle movements around the station precinct and work sites.
- Temporary utility service interruptions may occur. Utility providers will notify affected customers directly.
Our usual working hours at this stage of construction are Monday to Sunday, 7am to 7pm.
Upcoming night works
To complete essential works in the rail corridor, we will be working at night between Como Parade West, in Parkdale and Eulinga Avenue in Aspendale from Friday 14 August to Sunday 16 August. During this time, we’ll work:
- within the Mordialloc Station Stabling Yard and along the rail line at various locations
- between McDonald Street and Nepean Highway on new fencing within the rail corridor
- on Como Parade West for construction vehicle access into the rail corridor.
We will notify affected residents in advance.
Changes to the way you travel
Please follow signage and detours. Traffic management will be in place during works to safely guide you through the area. For regular updates on disruptions, subscribe to our SMS updates by texting MRD to 0429 839 892 or visit our disruptions map.
